2021-03-13_9:45am - Just Imagine
Another walk into the northern outskirts of Tama, and back. My scurry and I walked this route today to pick up trash, and take a couple more photos. I hate to say it, but we left a LOT of trash behind, but I’m sure we’ll get it next time, or the time after that.
The photos:
-
The first, taken from on Broadway/McClellan near Summit Street looks south toward Tama. Note the complete absence of any sidewalks or pedestrian route here, even though this is a VERY popular route, particulary for kids in the summer as they walk or bike to/from the Tama-Toledo Family Aquatic Center, and nearby athletic fields.
-
The second, taken from McClellan Street in Tama looks west past “Kupka’s Pond”, toward the STC High School. The pond has been a nice feature here for many years, but I like to imagine what a sidewalk/trail addition here might look like… winding past the pond, bridging over a small “draw” (rarely any water in it), and passing by the apartment complex that sits just east of STC High School on US Highway 63. I’d bet the tenants in those apartments and nearby nursing home would love to have such a connection to McClellan Street and areas beyond, not to mention what such an addition would do for kids traveling to and from the parks, aquatic center, or STC’s Tama campus.

The last photo, was taken on the “sidewalk to nowhere” looking south from Toledo into Tama along US Highway 63. This is another VERY popular route for kids passing to/from the STC campus. The lack of a sidewalk connection here, for more than 10 years now, is as dangerous as it is absurd.
